{"id":1053,"date":"2025-09-18T06:23:09","date_gmt":"2025-09-18T06:23:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/africadiplomacy.net\/?p=1053"},"modified":"2025-09-18T06:23:10","modified_gmt":"2025-09-18T06:23:10","slug":"ugandas-parliament-to-review-bill-protecting-artists-rights","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/africadiplomacy.net\/?p=1053","title":{"rendered":"Uganda\u2019s Parliament to Review Bill Protecting Artists\u2019 Rights"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Uganda\u2019s Parliament is set to review a proposed law aimed at protecting the rights of artists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Renowned musician Edirisa Musuza, popularly known as <em>Eddy Kenzo<\/em> and serving as President of the Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF), confirmed that a draft Copyright Law will soon be tabled before Parliament for consideration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The bill seeks to address long-standing challenges faced by Ugandan artists, who often struggle to secure proper ownership and financial benefit from their creative works.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to <em>Howwe.Ug<\/em>, Eddy Kenzo emphasized that the legislation could transform the livelihoods of musicians by granting them full rights over their original content.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe bill has already been presented for its first reading in Parliament. The second reading will follow, after which further debates will take place. From what I\u2019ve been told by Members of Parliament, I am confident it will be passed soon. Its approval is crucial, because if it fails, it would crush the hopes of artists,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The initiative was first introduced by musician-turned-legislator Hillary Kiyaga, known as <em>Dr. Hilderman<\/em>.
