{"id":118,"date":"2025-06-20T07:54:43","date_gmt":"2025-06-20T07:54:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/africadiplomacy.net\/?p=118"},"modified":"2025-06-20T07:54:43","modified_gmt":"2025-06-20T07:54:43","slug":"the-somali-government-and-iom-repatriate-youth-who-migrated-irregularly-to-algeria","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/africadiplomacy.net\/?p=118","title":{"rendered":"The Somali Government and IOM Repatriate Youth Who Migrated Irregularly to Algeria"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>By A Yusuf<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mogadishu, Somalia, June 19, 2025 -The Federal Government of Somalia, in collaboration with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), has today safely repatriated a number of young Somali migrants who had irregularly traveled to Algeria country, where they faced many hardships during their stay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A formal welcome ceremony for the returnees was held at Mogadishu International Airport and was attended by various government officials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Speaking at the event, the First Deputy Chairman of the National Commission for Refugees and IDPs, Mr. Abdullahi Adan, emphasized the importance of protecting the lives and futures of Somali youth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mr. Abdullahi Adan stated that the youth are the country\u2019s greatest resource and should be empowered to play a meaningful role in the nation\u2019s development. He strongly warned against the dangers of irregular migration, describing it as tragic, and noted that many young people have lost their lives in the process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt is deeply unfortunate that our youth put their lives at risk in search of a better life abroad, only to encounter suffering, abuse, and humiliation. I urge these young people to return to their country and take advantage of the opportunities available here,\u201d said Abdullahi Adan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He further advised the returnees to use the lessons learned from their migration journey to shift their mindset and instead contribute to building a new Somalia that is peaceful and prosperous.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The repatriation of these youths is part of ongoing efforts to reduce the risks of irregular migration and to raise awareness among Somali youth so they can lead dignified and productive lives within their homeland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is not the first time the Somali federal government&nbsp;has repatriated youth who left the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Somalia government has, on multiple occasions, brought back migrants from Libya after they were abused by smugglers inside the country, who subjected them to inhumane treatment and gross human rights violations in order to extort large sums of ransom money.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By A Yusuf Mogadishu, Somalia, June 19, 2025 -The Federal Government of Somalia, in collaboration with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), has today safely repatriated a number of young Somali migrants who had irregularly traveled to Algeria country, where they faced many hardships during their stay.
