The explosive device was found on the morning of October 3, 2025, in the field of Mukamana Caritas, a resident of Karambi Village, Manwari Cell, Mbazi Sector, in Nyamagabe District. According to local sources, the previous night\u2019s rain had caused severe erosion, washing away soil and debris which exposed the grenade on the surface.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Rwanda National Police spokesperson for the Southern Province, CIP Kamanzi Hassan, noting that upon receiving the report from residents, the police, together with other security organs, promptly responded and secured the scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
CIP Kamanzi explained that the location where the grenade was found is said to have belonged to a man who was an Interahamwe militia member during the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. He reportedly lived a militarized lifestyle, frequently carrying weapons and hosting soldiers or other armed individuals. It is believed that the grenade could have been left behind by him. The man is said to have fled to the Democratic Republic of Congo shortly after the genocide and has never returned. \u201cIt is clear that the grenade is old, but it remains a dangerous explosive,\u201d said CIP Kamanzi. \u201cIf someone had mishandled it, it could have caused serious harm or even death. That\u2019s why it was safely neutralized by authorized experts.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He further urged residents to remain vigilant and immediately report any suspicious or unknown objects to the police, warning that negligence in such cases could lead to severe consequences, including loss of life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
