Rwandans have been reminded that girls deserve the same care and opportunities as boys, and they were called upon to work together to end all forms of violence, child labor, and discrimination against girls.
This message was delivered during the celebration of the International Day of the Girl Child held in Huye <\/p>\n\n\n\n

District on October 11, 2025.
Annonciata Kankesha, the Vice Mayor of Huye District in charge of Social Affairs, emphasized that neglecting a girl during her adolescence can lead her into risky behaviors or street life. \u201cThe first battle we must fight is ensuring every parent sends their child to school. That\u2019s where protection and empowerment begin and it\u2019s a fight every Rwandan must take part in,\u201d she said.
Kankesha highlighted that local leaders are committed to breaking old traditions that discriminated against girls, stressing that all children have equal value.

She noted that in some communities, cases of violence against girls still go unreported by parents or neighbors, calling on everyone to take responsibility in fighting such injustices. \u201cWe must work together to build a better life for the girl child without neglecting boys, because both should grow up hand in hand, complementing each other,\u201d she added.
Empowering Girls to Believe in Themselves
Ineza Annet, a Senior Four student at G.S. Nkubi, encouraged her fellow girls to be confident, reminding them that they are capable and supported by their country. \u201cThe world is moving fast. My advice to other girls is to avoid temptations and focus on their goals, because their future is in their own hands,\u201d she said.
Health and Protection for the Girl Child
Dr. Ferdinand Ndayisaba, the Head of AHF Rwanda activities in the Southern Province, underscored that girls deserve access to health care, education, and protection from all forms of abuse.\u201cEvery girl deserves a healthy life free from diseases, including HIV and other sexually transmitted infections,\u201d he explained.
He added that AHF Rwanda empowers girls through youth-centered programs aimed at creating a brighter future for them, contributing to national development without inequality.
Government Calls for Collective Support

The Ministry of Gender and Family Promotion (MIGEPROF) also urged Rwandans especially men to support girls, stressing that empowering girls does not mean neglecting boys.
The ministry reminded citizens that a girl, when well cared for, becomes a responsible woman and mother who contributes to a nation\u2019s sustainable future.
This year\u2019s celebration was held under the theme: \u201cI Am a Girl, I Am Valuable.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
