The General Assembly of the National Consultative Forum of Political Organizations (NFPO) on Monday, October 14, 2025, elected Dr. Frank Habineza and Alphonse Nkubana to serve as members of the Rwandan Senate.

Once approved by the Supreme Court, the two will replace outgoing senators Alexis Mugisha and Clotilde Mukakarangwa, whose terms are set to expire on October 22, 2025.
Dr. Frank Habineza, a well-known opposition politician, has long been involved in environmental protection and sustainable development initiatives since his university days at the former National University of Rwanda (UNR).
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In August 2009, he officially joined active politics by founding the Democratic Green Party of Rwanda (DGPR), a political organization advocating for democracy and environmental conservation.
Dr. Habineza first ran for the presidency in 2017, but was unsuccessful. The following year, he was elected Member of Parliament, a position he held until 2024.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He again contested the 2024 presidential election, but did not win. Since then, he has focused on leading his party, DGPR, where he currently serves as President.
Alphonse Nkubana, on the other hand, is the current President of the PSP (Parti Socialiste pour le Progr\u00e8s), a political party that promotes solidarity and inclusive socio-economic development. He also served as Spokesperson of the NFPO for a six-month term that ran from September 2024 to March 2025.
Nkubana is recognized for his contribution to several social campaigns, including \u201cSasa Neza Munyarwandakazi\u201daimed at eradicating jiggers and improving hygiene and \u201cAgakono k\u2019Umwana\u201d, which teaches families how to prepare balanced diets for children.
The PSP has, in both 2017 and 2024, aligned with other political parties to support the presidential candidacy of President Paul Kagame of the Rwandan Patriotic Front (FPR-Inkotanyi).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
