President Paul Kagame on Tuesday held talks with the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, focusing on ways to strengthen the growing bilateral relations and cooperation between Rwanda and Qatar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The meeting took place in Doha on the sidelines of the World Summit for Social Development, an international forum dedicated to advancing global progress and collaboration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the Office of the President (Village Urugwiro), the two leaders discussed the positive trajectory of relations between their countries and explored further areas of partnership. \u201cThis morning in Doha, President Kagame met with the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, on the margins of the World Summit for Social Development. Their discussions focused on the strong ties between Rwanda and Qatar and avenues for continued cooperation,\u201d the statement read.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

President Kagame and Sheikh Tamim last met on September 12, 2025, during Kagame\u2019s working visit to Qatar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Expanding Rwanda\u2013Qatar Cooperation<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rwanda and Qatar enjoy a strong and growing partnership spanning several sectors, including investment, tourism, and aviation.
The collaboration reflects Rwanda\u2019s broader diplomatic vision to promote mutual respect, peace, and development through strategic global partnerships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A key component of this cooperation lies in air transport. Qatar Airways is expected to acquire a 49% stake in RwandAir, Rwanda\u2019s national carrier, as part of a long-term aviation partnership aimed at making Kigali a regional air hub.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, Qatar holds a 60% stake in the construction of the Bugesera International Airport, a major infrastructure project valued at $780 million. Once completed, the airport is expected to handle up to 14 million passengers annually.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
