For generations of Rwandans who grew up listening to classic reggae hits such as Red Red Wine, Kingston Town, and (I Can’t Help) Falling in Love With You, the event is expected to be one of the most memorable live music experiences ever hosted in the country.

Formed in 1978 in Birmingham, England, UB40 took its name from the British government’s “Unemployment Benefit, Form 40,” a document issued to job seekers at the time. Emerging from working-class roots, the band went on to revolutionize reggae music by blending reggae, dub, and pop into a distinctive sound that earned worldwide acclaim.

Over the past four decades, UB40 has sold more than 70 million records globally and achieved major chart success across Europe, North America, Africa, and beyond, making them one of the most commercially successful reggae groups in history.

Ali Campbell, the band’s founding member and iconic lead vocalist, continues to lead the current touring lineup, performing the group’s timeless classics alongside newer material from recent albums.

Rwanda has long embraced reggae music, welcoming internationally renowned artists such as Alpha Blondy, Burning Spear, and Lucky Dube, whose performances attracted large audiences and strengthened the genre’s popularity across the country. UB40’s arrival adds another significant chapter to Rwanda’s reggae legacy.

Organizers expect thousands of fans from Rwanda and neighboring countries to attend the concert, bringing together longtime reggae enthusiasts and a new generation of listeners discovering the band through digital streaming platforms.

The event also highlights Kigali’s growing reputation as a premier destination for international entertainment. According to industry leaders, securing globally recognized artists such as UB40 reflects increasing confidence among international promoters in Rwanda’s ability to host world-class events.

BK Arena has steadily expanded its international profile in recent years by hosting major concerts, sporting competitions, and cultural events, helping position Kigali as one of East Africa’s leading entertainment hubs.

As excitement builds across the city, hotels, restaurants, and nightlife venues are preparing for increased activity surrounding the concert. For many fans, the performance represents a rare opportunity to experience one of reggae’s most influential and enduring bands live on stage.

With anticipation at its peak, Kigali is set to witness a historic night as UB40 featuring Ali Campbell bring their legendary music to Rwanda for the very first time.

KIGALI, Rwanda – June 9, 2026 – Members of the legendary British reggae band UB40 featuring Ali Campbell arrived in Kigali on Tuesday morning ahead of their highly anticipated concert at BK Arena later this evening, marking the group’s first-ever performance in Rwanda.
