He warned that in the next 10 to 15 years, no one may be interested in listening to their songs.

Speaking in an interview with Sanyuka TV, Bobi Wine said the future of music in Uganda, particularly for current artists, is at risk due to the kind of lyrics and singing styles they embrace.

“I am worried, and I am not sure if today’s musicians will be proud of their lyrics in the future when their children want to listen to their songs 15 or 20 years from now. That is where the real danger lies. They might be forgotten and completely irrelevant,” he cautioned.

He explained that in every generation, there are always artists who produce songs with inappropriate content, but such musicians rarely leave a lasting legacy.

“Do you know what it means when people fail to remember musicians from your era, yet they remember those who came before you? Even in our time, there were artists who sang with offensive words, but no one remembers them today. In the era of Basudde, there were also such musicians, but their work has completely faded. What you create today determines your tomorrow,” Bobi Wine said.

After criticizing the trend and advising against the use of vulgar language in music, he gave a word of caution to younger artists:

“I would advise them to produce music and works they will be proud of a few years from now.”

Author: Justinmind HARERIMANA

Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known by his stage name Bobi Wine, who has now shifted his focus more toward politics than music, has expressed deep concern about the songwriting and performance styles of today’s musicians.
