Rwandan musician Yampano, one of the country\u2019s trending artists, is being asked to refund Rwf 200,000 that he received in advance to perform at a youth event in Ruhango District but failed to attend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The artist had been invited to entertain young people at a holiday closure event scheduled for August 31, 2025, as they prepared to return to school. However, both the audience and Ruhango District officials in attendance were left disappointed when he did not show up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to information obtained by Africa Diplomacy<\/em> from Ruhango District, Yampano had been promised a performance fee of Rwf 500,000. He received an advance of Rwf 200,000, with the remaining Rwf 300,000 to be paid on the day of the concert.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the day of the event, organizers say they called Yampano, who initially assured them that he was on his way to Ruhango. Shortly afterward, he informed them that his car had broken down and he could no longer attend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking to Africa Diplomacy<\/em>, Yampano confirmed the incident and admitted responsibility. He explained that it was an unfortunate circumstance and promised to refund the advance, requesting a two-week grace period to raise the funds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhat happened to me was misfortune, and they should understand. I accept my mistake and I know how badly I let them down, but I ask them to give me two weeks so I can return the money they gave me,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, the organizers insist that Yampano must either refund the advance payment immediately or provide a signed commitment letter agreeing to repay the money within an agreed timeframe. Otherwise, they say they will not tolerate the way he handled the matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
