{"id":985,"date":"2025-09-14T06:11:01","date_gmt":"2025-09-14T06:11:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/africadiplomacy.net\/?p=985"},"modified":"2025-09-14T06:11:03","modified_gmt":"2025-09-14T06:11:03","slug":"clapton-papa-sava-nyambo-madedeli-and-bamenya-among-over-150-nominees-for-mashariki-awards-2025","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/africadiplomacy.net\/?p=985","title":{"rendered":"Clapton, Papa Sava, Nyambo, Madedeli and Bamenya Among Over 150 Nominees for \u2018Mashariki Awards 2025\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Mashariki African Film Festival has unveiled the full list of nominees for the Mashariki Awards 2025, which will take place in Kigali from November 22 to 29, 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This year\u2019s competition features 160 nominees across more than 20 categories, including household names in Rwanda\u2019s film industry such as Clapton, Papa Sava, Nyambo, Madedeli, and Bamenya, alongside emerging talents making their mark.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 2025 edition aims to celebrate long-standing film icons while uplifting new voices, reinforcing Rwanda\u2019s cinema as a growing force on the international stage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Traditionally, the festival has focused on honoring African filmmakers and talents, but this year it is breaking new ground: for the first time, two cars will be awarded to winners of the People\u2019s Choice Actor and People\u2019s Choice Actress categories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, the week-long event will host a three-day \u201cMashariki Market,\u201d expected to attract more than 500 industry representatives from the United States, Canada, Europe, and across Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The festival theme for 2025 is \u201cCreative Horizons,\u201d highlighting how African artists are using creativity and technology to reshape the narrative of Africa, reclaim ownership of their stories, and showcase the richness of the continent\u2019s culture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Festival director Tr\u00e9sor Senga explained: \u201cThis year\u2019s theme reflects a major shift in how Africa is represented through film. African filmmakers are reclaiming their stories, redefining the continent\u2019s image, and creating new pathways for how the world understands Africa\u2019s past, present, and future.\u201d He emphasized that the festival will serve as both a tribute to African cinema legends and a platform to support rising stars determined to transform the industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Beyond the People\u2019s Choice categories, all other awards will be decided by a professional jury. Online voting will also be held, with voters receiving back 20% of the funds spent on voting for their favorite nominees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The festival will also extend its activities to five provinces of Rwanda, where filmmakers will screen their works, engage in community service, and interact with audiences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Key Categories<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Best Actor<\/strong><br>Nominees include Mugisha Emmanuel (Kibonke, <em>Deceiver<\/em>), Benimana Ramadhan (Bamenya, <em>Bamenya Series<\/em>), Irunga Longin (Tukowote, <em>Kaliza wa Kalisa<\/em>), Dusabimana Israel (Papa Tracy, <em>Impanga Series<\/em>), Niyitegeka Gratien (Papa Sava, <em>Seburikoko<\/em>), among others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Best Actress<\/strong><br>Nominees include Mumararungu Joyeuse (Micky, <em>IgiHome<\/em>), Ahishakiye Nadine (Aisha, <em>The Devil<\/em>), Niyonkuru Aimee (Nyambo, <em>The Devil<\/em>), Dusenge Clenia (Madedele, <em>Papa Sava<\/em>), Mukasekuru Hadidja (Fabiola, <em>The Devil<\/em>), and many more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Best Supporting Actors &amp;
