RDF Saddened by Drone Accident That Injured Children in Rutsiro

The Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) has expressed regret after a small unmanned drone crashed in Rutsiro District, injuring three schoolchildren who were on their way home.

The incident occurred on September 16, 2025, at 1:40 p.m. According to an RDF statement, the drone was being used for training exercises when it veered off course due to unfavorable weather conditions and crashed.

The accident left three students injured. Two of them were immediately taken to Kivumu Health Center for treatment, while the third was referred to Murunda Hospital for further medical care. “The Rwanda Defence Force extends its sympathies to the families of the injured children and deeply regrets the distress caused by this accident,” the statement read.

The RDF also noted that it is working closely with local authorities and medical professionals to ensure the injured students receive appropriate treatment. The army further confirmed that it is providing the necessary support to both the children and their families.
