Qatar’s Prime Minister Urges World to Stop Shielding Israel, Calls for Sanctions

Qatar’s Prime Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim al-Thani, has urged the international community to stop “shielding” Israel and instead impose sanctions on the country following Israeli strikes targeting Hamas leaders in Doha, Qatar.

On September 9, 2025, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), working with the Shin Bet security and intelligence agency, carried out attacks on buildings in Qatar that were reportedly hosting Hamas officials.

The strikes drew condemnation from several world leaders, including U.S. President Donald Trump, a long-time ally of Israel.

Sheikh Mohammed made his remarks ahead of a planned summit bringing together Qatar and its Gulf neighbors—including Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates—where discussions are expected to focus on coordinated pressure on Israel to end its military campaign in Gaza.

“The time has come for the international community to stop shielding Israel and instead impose sanctions for the crimes it has committed, while demanding an immediate end to the war in Gaza that has already claimed countless lives,” Sheikh Mohammed said.

He further argued that Israel’s continued actions are fueled by the lack of accountability, as major powers and international organizations have consistently failed to sanction the country for violations, including breaches of other nations’ sovereignty.

Leaders expected to attend the summit include Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, who arrived in Doha on September 14.
