RwandAir Launches Flights to Mombasa and Zanzibar

Rwanda’s national carrier, RwandAir, has announced the launch of flights to Zanzibar and Mombasa, starting December 1, 2025.

According to a statement issued on September 29, 2025, the new route Zanzibar to Mombasa will be operated using a Boeing B737 with four weekly flights, scheduled for Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays.

This marks the resumption of flights to Mombasa, which RwandAir last served in 2019, while Zanzibar becomes a brand-new destination. With this expansion, the airline will now serve three destinations in Tanzania and two in Kenya.

CEO Highlights Regional Growth

RwandAir CEO Yvonne Makolo emphasized the strategic importance of the new routes: “Returning to Mombasa and launching Zanzibar is another milestone in our growth journey. Expanding our presence in East Africa helps position Kigali as a key hub, offering our customers more opportunities to explore the region, while also opening doors for trade, tourism, and stronger East African cooperation.”

Flight Schedule

The inaugural flight will depart Kigali at 09:50 AM, arriving in Zanzibar at 12:50 PM. After a short stopover, it will continue to Mombasa, leaving at 1:40 PM and landing at 2:35 PM.

The return flight will depart Mombasa at 5:10 PM, arrive in Zanzibar at 6:05 PM, and then leave Zanzibar at 7:00 PM, reaching Kigali around 8:00 PM.

Government’s Development Plan

The expansion aligns with Rwanda’s five-year national development strategy, which prioritizes strengthening air transport. The plan aims to increase RwandAir’s destinations and double the number of passengers the airline serves.
