A man believed to be around 27 years old has been found dead, hanging from a rope inside a lodge room in Rubavu District, Western province .
The body was discovered on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at around 10:20 a.m. in Nyakabungo Village, Bugoyi Cell, Gisenyi Sector.
The Executive Secretary of Gisenyi Sector, Uwineza Francine, confirmed the incident, noting that the lodge management had committed a serious violation by hosting a client without registering his identity. “The deceased, whose identity remains unknown, was found dead. We were informed that he checked into the lodge on the night of October 3, 2025, but the management failed to record his details in their logbook or include him in their daily report,” Uwineza said.
She added that local authorities, together with officers from the Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB), immediately arrived at the scene and launched an investigation into the matter.
Uwineza further urged all accommodation facility owners to strictly follow legal procedures by properly recording and reporting every guest they receive.
Following the discovery, the lodge was temporarily closed by the sector authorities.
The deceased’s body was taken to the mortuary at Gisenyi Hospital for further examination.
