A small aircraft carrying 12 people crashed and caught fire on Tuesday morning in southeastern Kenya, according to the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA).
The plane had just taken off from Diani, a coastal town along the Indian Ocean in the southeastern part of the country, and was heading to Kichwa Tembo in the west, KCAA confirmed.
Kenyan media report that the aircraft went down in the Shimba area of Kwale County, approximately 20 kilometers from Diani, only moments after takeoff.
Images and videos shared widely on social media show the aircraft engulfed in flames shortly after the crash.
Several local outlets have reported that there are no survivors among the 12 people on board. However, aviation authorities have not yet officially confirmed any casualties.
Details about the identities of the passengers and crew have not been released.
The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority stated that investigations are underway to determine the cause of the crash.
