Rubavu: Man, 42, Found Dead with Deep Facial Cuts in Suspected Murder Case

Authorities in Rubavu District have launched an investigation after Manishimwe Théogène, a 42-year-old resident, was found dead with severe facial injuries believed to have been caused by a sharp weapon.

The incident occurred in Bugeshi Sector, Buringo Cell, Butaka Village, and was discovered early on Monday morning, November 10, 2025.

According to Eric Murindangabo, the Executive Secretary of Bugeshi Sector, local residents who were transporting a patient to the hospital stumbled upon the lifeless body and immediately alerted local authorities. “Those who were taking a patient to the hospital found his body and informed us. When we arrived, we discovered that he had been brutally killed  his face had five machete cuts, and he was also struck on the right knee,”
The victim, Manishimwe Théogène, reportedly worked as a barber in the Butaka trading center.

Preliminary reports indicate that seven suspects have already been arrested in connection with the killing as investigations continue.

Local officials have condemned the act as inhuman and unacceptable, urging residents to cooperate with law enforcement to ensure justice is served.

The body of the deceased was taken to Gisenyi District Hospital for autopsy as police continue their inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the murder.
