Kylian Mbappé Sues PSG, Demands $305 Million Over Contract Violations and Alleged Mistreatment

French national team captain Kylian Mbappé has taken legal action against his former club, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), seeking $305 million in unpaid dues and damages he claims stem from contractual breaches and mistreatment during his final months at the club. Mbappé, who now plays for Real Madrid, filed the lawsuit in a French labor court, intensifying a long-running dispute that began well before his departure from the Parisian giants.

A Battle That Never Ended After His Exit

Mbappé left PSG in the summer of 2024 after refusing to extend his contract. He joined Real Madrid on a free transfer  a move that ended months of tension between the player and PSG’s management. However, the situation escalated when PSG filed its own lawsuit against Mbappé, accusing him of inflicting financial damage on the club. PSG argued that Mbappé cost them $278 million by refusing a transfer to Al Hilal, a Saudi Arabian club that had offered $347 million for his signing in 2023. PSG claimed Mbappé’s refusal deprived them of a historic transfer revenue opportunity.

Mbappé Fights Back: Claims of Intimidation and Retaliation

In his counter-lawsuit, Mbappé alleges that PSG violated his labor rights, deliberately restricted his playing time, and subjected him to retaliatory treatment as punishment for refusing to renew his contract. According to Mbappé:

He was excluded from team activities at the start of the 2023/24 season.

The club sidelined him from pre-season preparations in Asia, preventing him from traveling with the rest of the squad.

PSG attempted to isolate him from teammates after learning he would not sign a contract extension.

He was benched and denied match minutes as a pressure tactic.

Sources close to the player say the environment became “toxic,” prompting Mbappé to consider leaving mid-season if no solution was found. Eventually, PSG reintegrated him into the squad, but the relationship damage had already been done.

Seven Seasons, 308 Matches, 256 Goals

Mbappé’s departure marked the end of a highly successful seven-year spell at PSG:

308 matches played

256 goals scored

Multiple domestic titles

A transformative global brand impact

Ironically, PSG won the UEFA Champions League in 2025 after Mbappé had already left. The club lost him without receiving a transfer fee, making the breakup even more painful financially.

A New Beginning at Real Madrid

After leaving PSG for free, Mbappé joined Real Madrid, where he earns $34 million per year. His arrival was celebrated as one of the biggest transfers of the decade, ending years of speculation linking him to the Spanish giants. Madrid officials have declined to comment on the lawsuit but are reportedly supportive of Mbappé’s decision to pursue the matter legally.

A Legal Case That Could Shake European Football

If Mbappé succeeds in claiming $305 million, it would be one of the largest individual compensation awards in professional football history. The case raises broader questions about:

Player rights

Contractual obligations

Limits of club pressure during transfer negotiations

Ethical treatment of athletes

It also puts the spotlight on PSG’s internal management culture, which has faced criticism in the past regarding player relations and financial handling. French legal experts estimate the case could take months or even years to resolve.

As both sides prepare for a courtroom battle, the football world is watching closely. Mbappé’s legal team insists the lawsuit is not about revenge but about defending professional integrity and ensuring no other player faces similar treatment. PSG, meanwhile, continues to argue that Mbappé’s refusal to accept the Al Hilal offer cost the club hundreds of millions of dollars.

The upcoming hearings will determine whether PSG’s handling of the superstar crossed the line  or whether Mbappé’s claims will be dismissed as a counter-attack in a long-standing feud.
