
The President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, arrived in Kigali on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, to attend the Nuclear Energy Innovation Summit for Africa (NEISA), which will be held in Rwanda from May 18 to 21, 2026.
President Samia Suluhu Hassan, upon her arrival at Kigali International Airport in Kanombe, was received by the Secretary of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Dr. Usta Kaitesi.
President Samia Suluhu Hassan arrives in Rwanda a few days after President Paul Kagame visited Tanzania, where he paid a one-day visit on May 3 aimed at further promoting relations and cooperation between the two neighboring countries.
In addition to the President of Tanzania, other dignitaries expected to attend the meeting include Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé, President of Togo. Other dignitaries expected to attend the nuclear energy meeting include the Prime Minister of Niger, Ali Mahamane Zeine, and the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Mariano Grossi.
The meeting will also be attended by Dr. Sama Bilbao y León, Director General of the World Nuclear Association (WNA), and Dr. Lassina Zerbo, Advisor to the President of the Republic of Rwanda on Energy and Chairperson of the Rwanda Atomic Energy Board (RAEB).
The visit of President Samia Suluhu Hassan and other dignitaries highlights the importance of cooperation between countries in promoting the safe use of nuclear energy, which contributes to economic development and the well-being of populations.
