Phil Emon Speaks on Ishimwe Clement’s Role in Collaboration with Nel Ngabo

Rwandan artist Phil Emon has described his collaboration with singer Nel Ngabo on the track Delicious as a defining moment in his music career, crediting renowned producer Ishimwe Clement for initiating the project.

Phil Emon revealed that he had already completed the song and was preparing to release it when Clement reached out, expressing admiration for the track and suggesting a rework with Nel Ngabo.

“I was about to release Delicious in May when Clement called me,” Emon recalled. “He told me he loved the song and proposed that we redo it with Nel Ngabo. As someone who values collaboration with talented people, I immediately embraced the idea.”

The project was restructured under Clement’s direction, with the producer handling the audio production. According to Emon, featuring Nel Ngabo elevated the song by adding “depth and strength” to his artistry.

Explaining why the release came without visuals, Emon said the decision was deliberate:

“We chose to first release the audio while preparing for the music video to ensure it meets the right standard,” he noted.

Emon regards Delicious as one of the most significant tracks of his career so far.

“It’s a big song that’s laying a strong foundation for my musical journey,” he said.

The song blends Phil Emon’s unique style with Nel Ngabo’s powerful vocals, standing out as a notable Afrobeat and R&B collaboration in Rwanda’s growing music scene.

Born in Nyanza District in Rwanda’s Southern Province, Phil Emon completed high school before relocating with his family to Kigali. He says music has always been his passion, often writing and performing for those who encouraged him to pursue it professionally.

“I chose music because it’s what I’ve always loved and where I see my future,” he explained, adding that his ambition is to create music that represents Rwanda and Africa on the global stage.

Phil Emon began his professional career three years ago with his debut single Ring. He has since followed up with tracks including Woow, Oooh, Love, Listen, You, and I’m Good.
