Rwandan artist Gisa Cy’Inganzo, who had been serving time on drug-related charges, has been released from prison and is preparing to relaunch his music career.
The singer, who spent over a year at Muhanga Prison, was freed in July 2025 after completing his one-year sentence handed down by the courts.
Following his release, Gisa did not immediately return to the music scene. According to close sources, he chose to first take time off to rest and focus on his personal well-being.
In recent weeks, however, Gisa has been working on several music projects. A close collaborator revealed that the artist is in the final stages of producing a new track. “Gisa is back home and doing well. I believe people will be proud when they see the positive changes he has made. He has been working on a new song titled Mumutima, which will be released very soon,” the collaborator said.
Gisa James, popularly known as Gisa Cy’Inganzo, is regarded as one of Rwanda’s talented musicians, though his career has been overshadowed by personal struggles and recurring legal issues.
This is not the first time he has faced drug-related charges. In 2017, Gisa was arrested and sentenced to two years in Nyarugenge Prison. After his release in 2019, he attempted to revive his career but once again fell into similar challenges, which led to his re-arrest in 2024 and subsequent imprisonment at Muhanga Prison.
Now free again, the artist hopes to make a strong comeback in the Rwandan music industry.
