Muhoza Trivia Elle Crowned Miss Uganda Amid Controversy Over Rwandan Heritage

Debates have erupted across social media platforms in Uganda, particularly within entertainment circles, after Muhoza Trivia Elle, alleged to have Rwandan roots, was crowned Miss Uganda 2025.

Many social media users were quick to react once it was announced that Muhoza had won the crown. While some congratulated her, others questioned her nationality, arguing that despite her victory, she is Rwandan.

A user named Vanessa Kamara, upon seeing footage of the crowning ceremony, commented under an Instagram post by Mbu magazine asking, “Miss Uganda or Miss Rwanda?” Another user, Winnie Renne, sarcastically remarked, “Miss Rwanda in Uganda!” while Farha Eid Monteza went further, claiming that Rwandans have taken over everything in Uganda.
She wrote, “Rwandans have taken over everything in Uganda just look at those even contesting for seats in parliament.”

This sparked a broader debate, with many Ugandans expressing frustration and wondering when a contestant born and raised in Uganda would finally take the crown.

Even members of the judging panel were reportedly puzzled by how a contestant named Muhoza could be competing in Miss Uganda.

This is not the first time the Miss Uganda pageant has been marred by controversy linked to Rwanda. The outgoing queen, Natasha Nyonyozi, faced similar claims, while Hannah Karema, who won in 2023, was also accused of being Rwandan.

On the other hand, pageant organizers and those close to the competition insist that as long as a contestant meets the requirements, heritage should not be a barrier. They maintain that one’s background does not disqualify them from vying for the Miss Uganda crown.
