A primary school teacher in Rubavu District has been arrested on allegations of defrauding parents and fellow teachers of nearly 830,000 Rwandan francs.
The teacher, who works at Kinyanzovu Primary School, is accused of taking 100,000 Rwf from two parents after promising to secure places for their children at GS Busasamana. He is also said to have swindled five fellow teachers out of 730,000 Rwf, claiming he could help them access quick loans under the “Gira Iwawe Mwarimu” housing program.
Authorities confirmed that the suspect was arrested at his school on September 17, 2025, in Kinyanzovu Cell, Cyanzarwe Sector.
Cyanzarwe Executive Secretary, Honoré Mugisha, said the teacher was apprehended following a complaint filed by the school’s headmaster. “He was arrested after the school head raised the alarm, having received complaints from parents who said he had defrauded them. His fellow teachers also reported that he took their money under the pretext of facilitating loans through the housing program, and they have sufficient evidence to support their claims,” Mugisha explained.
He urged residents to remain vigilant, uphold integrity, and avoid falling victim to similar schemes.
