APR FC has suspended players Mamadou Sy and Dauda Yussif Seidu for one month due to disciplinary issues that occurred while the team was in Egypt ahead of their CAF Champions League return leg match against Pyramids FC.
Striker Mamadou Sy from Mauritania and Ghanaian midfielder Dauda Yussif Seidu were both left out of the squad for the match played in Cairo on Sunday.
Earlier in the week, APR FC Chairman Brig. Gen. Deo Rusanganwa had stated that the initial decision had been made by the head coach.
In an official statement released by the club on Friday, APR FC clarified the reason behind the disciplinary action:
“The management of APR Football Club wishes to inform all concerned parties, especially our dedicated fans and supporters, about the disciplinary issue that arose in Cairo, Egypt, during our CAF Champions League encounter against Pyramids FC,” the statement read. “During preparations for that match, players Sy Mamadou and Dauda Yussif deliberately disobeyed the instructions and rules issued by the Head Coach and club management. Their misconduct negatively affected the team’s performance and unity, which are key values of APR FC.”
The statement added that after internal discussions and in line with the club’s code of conduct and players’ contracts, management decided to suspend both players for 30 days. The suspension period will allow for a thorough and independent investigation before any further action is taken. “APR FC remains committed to professionalism, discipline, and mutual respect within the team. No individual is above the club’s core values, and every player is expected to uphold loyalty, teamwork, and proper conduct, which have defined APR FC throughout its history.”
Reports indicate that the two players allegedly left the team camp before the crucial match, with some rumors linking the incident to internal disagreements.
In the first leg played in Kigali on October 1, 2025, Dauda Yussif started the game but was substituted in the 77th minute by Hakim Kiwanuka, while Mamadou Sy came on for William Togui in the 74th minute.
APR FC was eliminated from the CAF Champions League after losing 3–0 in Cairo, following a 2–0 defeat in the first leg in Kigali.
As of this week, Dauda Yussif has resumed training with the team, while Mamadou Sy is currently on duty with the Mauritanian national team.
