President Kagame Receives Mozambique’s President Daniel Chapo Attending Africa CEO Forum in Kigali

Kigali – Paul Kagame, President of the Republic of Rwanda, on Wednesday evening received his Mozambican counterpart, Daniel Chapo, who is on a working visit to Rwanda to attend the 13th edition of the Africa CEO Forum taking place in Kigali.

President Chapo was welcomed at Village Urugwiro, where the two heads of state held a private meeting focused on strengthening the existing cooperation between Rwanda and Mozambique, particularly in the areas of security, trade, and investment.

The Africa CEO Forum, now in its 13th edition, brings together African heads of state, leaders of major companies, and development partners to discuss ways of accelerating economic growth on the continent and strengthening the role of the private sector in driving development.

Security Cooperation Continues to Deliver Results

During their discussions, the two leaders also reviewed the progress of bilateral cooperation in security matters, particularly in Cabo Delgado, a region in northern Mozambique that has faced security challenges in recent years.

Since July 2021, Rwandan security forces have been working alongside Mozambican forces to combat terrorist groups that had destabilized the province. The joint operations have contributed significantly to restoring stability, enabling many displaced residents to return to their homes while essential infrastructure and economic activities gradually resume.

Rwanda and Mozambique Expand Bilateral Cooperation

Beyond security collaboration, Rwanda and Mozambique continue to broaden their partnership across several sectors, including trade, agriculture, industry, and investment. Diplomatic relations between the two countries date back to 1990 and were further strengthened in 2018 with the establishment of a Joint Commission aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation.

In August 2025, the governments of Rwanda and Mozambique renewed agreements related to investment promotion and counter-terrorism cooperation, reaffirming their commitment to deepening bilateral relations.

Earlier in 2026, Rwanda also provided Mozambique with humanitarian assistance consisting of food and medical supplies to support communities affected by severe flooding.

Kigali Strengthens Its Role as a Hub for International Forums

President Chapo’s visit coincides with the hosting of the Africa CEO Forum in Kigali from May 14 to 15, 2026. The forum is considered one of Africa’s leading platforms for dialogue on business and investment, bringing together policymakers, investors, and business leaders to explore opportunities for economic growth and continental cooperation.

The meeting between President Kagame and President Chapo underscores the commitment of both countries to further strengthening bilateral relations aimed at promoting peace, security, and economic development for their citizens and for the African continent as a whole.
