Kagame Stresses Solution-Oriented Politics in RPF Address

Kigali, July 17, 2026 — President Paul Kagame, Chairman of the ruling Rwandan Patriotic Front (RPF-Inkotanyi), delivered a pointed address Friday on the nature of effective governance, urging party members to focus on confronting real problems rather than engaging in divisive rhetoric.

Speaking at a Political Bureau meeting, Kagame drew a clear distinction between constructive politics and what he described as unproductive alternatives.

“The politics I know from the RPF is about confronting the problems we want to solve, and no other politics,” he said. “Politics of slander, of division, of lies — sometimes called competition — sometimes adds more problems to the ones you already have; it never gives solutions.”

He told attendees that genuine political work must deliver tangible results for citizens, emphasizing the need to build strong foundations instead of chasing temporary trends.

In remarks directed at younger Rwandans, Kagame warned against delaying action: “Don’t wait until you are 70 and then start asking yourself: what did I do? … Take it seriously, understand it, and when you leave here today, act on it.”

The address underscored the RPF’s long-standing philosophy of pragmatic leadership and problem-solving, themes that have defined the party’s approach since the post-genocide era.
