Rwandan born singer Gloria Busingye, popularly known as Gloria Bugie and currently based in Uganda, has stirred controversy once again after revealing that she spends more than UGX 2 million (approximately Rwf 828,000) every single day.
The statement quickly went viral in Ugandan media, sparking a wave of criticism and mockery online.
In her own words, Bugie explained: “How much I spend in a day depends on how my day goes. When I’m at home it’s different from when I have a show. But on average, I spend around UGX 2 million daily [over Rwf 828,000]. Most of it goes to spa treatments, fuel, food, and clothes. I never wear the same outfit twice I buy new clothes every day.”
Her remarks drew backlash, with some comparing her extravagant lifestyle to that of Marie Antoinette, the former French queen infamous for her lavish spending. Others mocked the singer, questioning her choices.
One critic sarcastically asked: “What clothes do you even buy every day when you usually appear half-naked?”
Another wondered about her income sources, saying: “How much do you even earn per day to sustain that lifestyle? In the end, you’ll drag yourself into debt.”
Some also pointed out the irony of her claiming to live such a lavish life while still renting a home.
This is not the first time Gloria Bugie has attracted controversy. She has previously been criticized for her revealing outfits and sexually suggestive songs, prompting Uganda’s National Cultural Forum (UNCC) to censure her.
More recently, she was rumored to have undergone cosmetic surgery on her lips, nose, and hips allegations she strongly denied, insisting her body changes were natural.
