Western Province Youth Complete Volunteer Projects Worth Rwf 75 Million

Youth volunteers in Rwanda’s Western Province have carried out a series of community development activities valued at Rwf 75 million during the month dedicated to volunteerism.

According to the regional leadership of Youth Volunteers, the activities focused on improving the lives of vulnerable residents through home construction, environmental protection, and campaigns promoting healthy lifestyles.

The month-long initiative concluded on October 31, 2025, in Ruhango Sector, Rutsiro District, with a public outreach event centered on disaster prevention, tree planting, combating illicit alcohol and drug abuse, and supporting vulnerable families.

Speaking at the closing event, CSP Jackline Urujeni, Head of the Youth Volunteers Coordination Office at the Rwanda National Police, commended the young volunteers for their continued contribution to community safety and social development. “Keep working to prevent crime before it happens, report incidents promptly, protect the trees you’ve planted, and fight against drug abuse,” Urujeni said.
“Volunteerism is a great way to start contributing meaningfully to national development.”

Abdulmadjid Ntawuruhunga, the Western Province Youth Volunteers Coordinator, said that the total value of the projects implemented during the month exceeded Rwf 75 million.“Youth volunteers built 25 houses, renovated 96 homes, constructed 359 latrines, and rehabilitated 240 others,” he said.
“They also planted over 91,500 trees, repaired 17 kilometers of feeder roads, and conducted awareness campaigns on government programs that reached more than 37,000 people.”

Rutsiro District accounted for the largest share of the projects, with initiatives valued at over Rwf 51 million, including major tree-planting, home repair, and community road maintenance activities.

Local officials and participants emphasized that youth volunteerism continues to serve as a strong foundation for addressing community challenges and promoting social well-being across the province.“The youth must remain at the forefront of efforts to improve people’s livelihoods and sustain Rwanda’s culture of volunteerism,” said one of the local leaders during the closing ceremony.
