East Africa’s celebrated comedian, Alfred Aubin Mugisha better known by his stage name Kigingi has announced plans to mark his 15-year career in comedy with a series of special anniversary shows. Kigali, Rwanda’s capital, is among the key cities where the performances will take place.
Often referred to as the “King of Comedy in Burundi,” Kigingi began his career in the media industry before fully venturing into stand-up comedy. He is currently in Kigali preparing for his solo show slated for Sunday, August 31, 2025, which will reflect on his 13 years of active performance in the region’s comedy scene.
Kigingi is no stranger to Rwandan audiences, having previously graced stages at Gen-Z Comedy, Seka Live, and other popular events. Speaking to Africa Diplomacy , he revealed that this upcoming celebration follows the success of his 10-year anniversary show, which was warmly received by fans.
“When I marked 10 years in comedy, I organized a big show. Now that I’m approaching 15 years, I want to do it again this time with a larger celebration that brings together fans and fellow comedians who have supported me along the way,” he said.
The comedian disclosed that his anniversary plans span both Burundi and Rwanda, emphasizing Kigali’s significance as a cultural hub where he hopes to strengthen his presence.
“I want this to be a large-scale celebration that also takes place in Rwanda. My experiences performing here, whether at Gen-Z Comedy or at events hosted by Burundian artists, showed me I have a strong fan base in Kigali. Many people attend, while others who miss out deserve a show dedicated to them,” he explained.
Kigingi acknowledged the challenges of organizing major events outside his home country but expressed confidence in the potential of cross-border collaboration.
“For now, I’m focusing on my solo show to understand the logistics better. If it succeeds, it could pave the way for a larger comedy festival that would also feature Rwandan comedians, promoting cultural exchange and showcasing our talents,” he added.
With over 13 years of professional experience, Kigingi has become a household name in Burundi, Rwanda, and across East Africa. His work continues to position comedy as one of the region’s fastest-growing entertainment industries.
