Emma Heming, the wife of Hollywood icon Bruce Willis, has responded to mounting criticism over her handling of the actor’s health care amid his battle with frontotemporal dementia (FTD).
The backlash intensified following Heming’s recent appearance on ABC News Special, where she discussed her family’s life since Willis was diagnosed with the degenerative brain disorder, which affects behavior, memory, and social interaction.
Many viewers expressed disappointment after learning that Willis is no longer living at home with his family but is instead in a specialized care facility. Heming did not explicitly confirm whether the couple now lives separately but acknowledged the divided public reaction in a post on Instagram.
“I knew that by sharing such private details, there would be two sides — some people sharing their own experiences and others simply passing judgment,” she wrote.
Heming noted that she has relied on her book about caregiving and coping with loved ones suffering from serious illnesses to navigate the criticism.
“The loudest voices are not always the most valid,” she emphasized. “If you haven’t lived with or cared for someone facing what Bruce is going through, you really don’t have the right to judge.”
Willis retired from acting in March 2022 following his initial diagnosis. In February 2023, his family confirmed that his condition had significantly worsened.
