Popular Rwandan artists including Bruce Melodie, Chriss Eazy, Kivumbi King, and Ariel Wayz electrified the crowd during the 20th edition of the Kwita Izina Gorilla Naming Ceremony.
The event, held on Friday, September 5, 2025, in Kinigi, Musanze District, celebrated the naming of 40 baby gorillas from 15 different families. More than 10,000 people attended the ceremony, which featured performances from some of Rwanda’s top musicians.
Rapper Kivumbi King entertained the audience with several of his hit songs, including “Sabrina” featuring Mike Kayihura, a favorite among the youth. Songstress Ariel Wayz also graced the stage, performing popular tracks such as “You Should Know.”
Crowd favorite Chriss Eazy had the audience singing along to hits like “Folomiana” featuring Kevin Kade and The Ben. Meanwhile, superstar Bruce Melodie—dressed in striking red and white—was warmly welcomed by the cheering crowd as he performed chart-topping songs like “Selebura” and others.
The colorful celebration was attended by several high-profile figures, including Prime Minister Dr. Justin Nsegiyumva and First Lady Jeannette Kagame.
Marking its 20th anniversary, the Kwita Izina ceremony has so far named nearly 400 baby gorillas since its inception, reinforcing Rwanda’s global commitment to conservation and community engagement.
