Poland’s Ministry of Defense has dismissed reports claiming it planned to send troops to Ukraine for training exercises aimed at countering drone and missile attacks.
The Ministry issued a statement on X, refuting information published by several media outlets, including Reuters and Ukrainian sources, that suggested Polish soldiers would be deployed to Ukraine to learn how to respond to drone strikes and missile threats.
“This is simply a response to questions about where training on unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) will take place and how experts from both countries will cooperate in this area,” the statement clarified.
It further stressed that “discussions are ongoing and are primarily focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation in the use of drones and other technologies to defend against drone attacks originating from Russia.”
The Ministry added that, should the training program move forward, it would most likely be conducted in Poland rather than on Ukrainian soil.
On September 11, Reuters had reported that Polish troops were expected to take part in training exercises in Ukraine involving drone defense. The news followed remarks by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who had announced reaching an agreement with Poland’s Prime Minister to send Polish military personnel for training on countering drone attacks.
