Former Miss Rwanda, Jolly Mutesi, has addressed growing calls for her to take up leadership positions in government. She stressed that serving one’s country does not necessarily require holding public office, as every citizen can contribute to national development in their own way.
Her comments followed a suggestion by social media user Kamoso Quemo, who publicly called for her appointment as an ambassador and advisor for youth and women in Rwanda. “Jolly Mutesi deserves an honorable place in government as an ambassador and advisor to women in Rwanda, where many can learn from her. She deserves more,” Quemo wrote.
Responding to the post, Mutesi expressed gratitude for the support but emphasized that leadership extends beyond government roles. “Thank you very much for your kind words, I’m truly humbled. As for joining public office, I’ve never really given it thought. However, politics and contributing to the development of our country is not only about being in government. In fact, everything we do is connected to politics, and we all have a role to play as responsible citizens,” she stated.
Mutesi further explained that individuals can make an impact through their careers, families, and communities, without necessarily occupying political positions.
Her stance has been widely applauded, with many commending her for underscoring that patriotism and service are best demonstrated through dedication and setting a positive example, not merely by holding office.
The former beauty queen continues to inspire young people and women across Rwanda, often sharing motivational messages and perspectives on her social media platforms, including X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram.
